Time to Gamify?

At some point in the past, the Skritter team had mentioned possible plans to establish functionality (for those who wish to partake) to “gamify” Skritter and enable friendly competitions among learners/users to provide another dimension to the Skritter experience. Is that initiative still alive?

It is! The competition aspect is something that might not be included at first, however we have had plans for gamifying things a bit. The first iteration of something like this would be achievement based with some form of unlocks before we would get into friendly competition. We’ve been working on the beta rewrite so it was unfortunately and inevitably pushed aside in the meantime, but the initiative is still alive!

Some of the gamification elements are already going to be included in the 3.1 experience we’re in the process of rolling out on mobile devices.

During your study experience you’ll be greeted by some stats screens, and progress indicators that help provide a real sense of progress as you’re learning. I’m really enjoying them on my Japanese Kana learning journey.

It is a long way from battling friends while you write Chinese or Japanese, but it is certainly a step in the right direction. And, these new apps are certainly built in such a way that we can add lots more fun and encouraging stuff in along the way!

Can’t wait to hear about what you think of the updates and any ideas you might have once the app is in your hands!
