New words becoming Leeches

I’ve been getting a weird issue lately where new words will come in during study, then when they come up in rotation again, they’re automatically marked as leech, even though I hadn’t even had a chance to test my ability on it yet. It’s not a huge deal, but I feel like I’m being penalized for not knowing how to write a new word without being given the chance to test my writing ability first.

Also, sometimes a new word will come in and Skritter makes me practice it over and over again (ie, it shows me how to write the strokes for the character every time it comes up, and is labeled as ‘new’ each time). After several instances of this happening, the next time I see the word it is marked as leech. This is mildly annoying.

I also just got a word come up as marked as a leech even though it’s new. Didn’t get a screen shot though.

Hmm, had you marked this word wrong multiple times in a row?

No, I don’t think so, I think it was at the very start of a brand new session, it just popped up with leech marker before I’d even started learning that one.
